Seven Maoists were slain in a Chhattisgarh encounter with security troops

In Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, a significant encounter occurred on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of seven Maoists, including two women. Security forces engaged in the operation recovered a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives, notably AK-47 rifles, from the site.

Chhattisgarh's Inspector General of Police, P Sundarraj, confirmed that the encounter was ongoing, indicating the intensity of the confrontation between security personnel and Maoist insurgents.

The encounter unfolded following a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Force launched in the Abujhmad region along the Narayanpur-Kanker district border. The operation, initiated on Monday, culminated in a fierce exchange early Tuesday morning.

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased individuals, with authorities actively working to confirm their identities. This incident marks the second significant blow dealt to Naxalites by security forces within a span of 15 days.

Since the beginning of the year, encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, encompassing seven districts including Narayanpur and Kanker, have resulted in the deaths of 88 Naxalites. The state police reported that on April 16, 29 Naxalites were killed in another encounter in the Kanker district, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and maintain peace and stability in the region.
