In the past two weeks, various cities in India, including Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad, have experienced a wave of bomb threats targeting schools and other establishments. The trend continued as at least 10 prominent schools in Kanpur received similar threats on Wednesday. These threats, received via email, originated from a server in Russia, mirroring the pattern observed in previous incidents in Delhi and Ahmedabad earlier this month.
In response to the threats, the affected schools in Kanpur have implemented security measures, such as restricting outsider access, while law enforcement agencies have initiated investigations into the matter. Kanpur joins the growing list of Indian cities impacted by these bomb threats, including Delhi, Noida, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
The series of threats commenced on May 1 when numerous schools in Delhi, along with a few in Noida and Lucknow, received bomb threats via email, leading to widespread evacuations and panic among parents. However, authorities later confirmed that the emails were likely hoaxes, as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Subsequently, several schools in Ahmedabad also received similar bomb threat emails, originating from the Russian domain 'mail.ru'. Recently, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and over 10 hospitals in the city received similar threats via email. The Delhi Police have labeled these threats as hoaxes and are actively investigating the individuals responsible for sending them.
