Spinal and brain injuries were sustained by passengers on a turbulent Singapore Airlines flight

As per the latest update from Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, Director of Bangkok's Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, twenty individuals who were on board the Singapore Airlines flight that experienced severe turbulence and subsequently diverted to Bangkok for an emergency landing on Tuesday remain in intensive care. In a briefing with reporters, Kittiratanapaibool emphasized that the number of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) has not changed, indicating the critical nature of their conditions. However, he reassured that currently, there are no cases considered life-threatening.

Among the 40 individuals still receiving treatment from the flight incident, Kittiratanapaibool detailed that 22 patients are suffering from spinal cord injuries, while six have sustained injuries to their brain and skull. Providing further insight, he mentioned that the spectrum of patients ranges from an 83-year-old individual to a two-year-old child who sustained a concussion.

Initially, Adinun had stated that 41 individuals were under treatment, but he later clarified that one person had been discharged from the hospital. According to information presented by Adinun, the individuals receiving treatment comprised ten British nationals, nine Australians, seven Malaysians, and four Philippine citizens.

However, there was no breakdown provided regarding the distribution of passengers versus crew members among those receiving medical attention. Tragically, one passenger lost their life due to a suspected heart attack, while numerous others sustained injuries during the turbulent episode over Myanmar.

On Wednesday, over 140 passengers and crew members from the affected flight safely arrived in Singapore following the harrowing ordeal.
