Takes on Opposition: "ED was useless prior to 2014" PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to allegations from opposition parties regarding the use of central investigative agencies by asserting that agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have become more effective under his government compared to previous administrations. In an interview with India Today TV, PM Modi cited the example of the ED, highlighting its improved performance under the BJP government compared to its perceived inefficacy during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

PM Modi emphasized that while the laws and agencies criticized by the opposition were already in place during the UPA regime, they were not functioning effectively. He pointed out the significant difference in the ED's performance, noting that it had confiscated a substantial amount of money during his tenure compared to minimal action taken before.

The Prime Minister defended the actions of investigative agencies, asserting that they were simply performing their duties and enforcing the law. He questioned the opposition's criticism, particularly regarding the confiscation of illicit money and assets, suggesting that such actions should be lauded rather than condemned.

PM Modi criticized the opposition's portrayal of investigative agencies as criminal entities, emphasizing the importance of effective law enforcement in combating corruption and criminal activities. He highlighted the role of institutions and the proper implementation of laws in curbing corruption, drawing parallels with successful actions against the black market and illicit activities in the past.

Overall, PM Modi's remarks aimed to refute allegations of misuse of investigative agencies by the BJP government, asserting instead that these agencies have become more efficient in tackling corruption and upholding the rule of law under his leadership.
