Heer Ghetiya, a 16-year-old girl from Morbi, Gujarat, achieved remarkable success by securing one of the top positions in the board exams, scoring 99.70 percent in the Class 10 exams conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB). However, tragedy struck as she succumbed to a brain hemorrhage on Wednesday.
A month ago, Heer underwent a critical operation for a brain hemorrhage at a private hospital in Rajkot. Although she was discharged following the operation, her health deteriorated again, experienced breathing and heart-related complications about a week ago.
Subsequently, Heer was readmitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where an MRI report revealed that a significant portion, around 80 to 90 percent, of her brain had ceased functioning. Despite medical efforts, Heer's heart stopped working, leading to her demise.
In a poignant gesture of generosity amidst their grief, Heer's parents decided to donate her eyes and her body. Expressing their daughter's aspiration to pursue a career in medicine, her father stated, "Heer wanted to be a doctor. We donated her body so that even if she couldn't become a doctor, she would be able to help save other lives."
Heer's untimely passing serves as a reminder of life's unpredictability, yet her altruistic act of organ donation ensures that her legacy lives on through the lives she will potentially save.
