Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal. Kumar's father, Maheshwar Rai, decried the arrest as unjust and claimed that the BJP had been pressuring his son to sever ties with Arvind Kejriwal.
Rai voiced his concerns, stating, "This is injustice. My son is a simple man. There is a BJP government in power, it can do whatever it wants. They are telling him to abandon Arvind Kejriwal, then he will not be harmed."
Bibhav Kumar stands accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, who filed a police complaint alleging that Kumar slapped her multiple times and kicked her in the chest and stomach during an incident at the Chief Minister's residence on May 13.
Kumar's father emphasized his son's long-standing service to Kejriwal, spanning 15 years, during which there had not been any previous complaints against him.
Rai provided a detailed account of the events as narrated by Bibhav Kumar, stating, "I spoke with him over the phone, he told me that he was having his breakfast and she (Swati Maliwal) came to do something big. Guards stopped her and he went there. Guards removed her from there. He didn't touch her even once. He only told her that he wouldn't let her meet Kejriwal without asking him. Hearing this, she got angry and threatened him."
In response to Maliwal's complaint, Bibhav Kumar filed a counter-complaint with the Civil Lines police station, alleging that Maliwal had "forcefully and unauthorizedly" entered the Chief Minister's residence and attempted to create a disturbance. He further claimed that Maliwal intended to harm Arvind Kejriwal, and he strongly objected to her actions.
