In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his bond with the people of both Amethi and Raebareli, asserting that they are an integral part of his extended family. He expressed satisfaction at the nomination of Kishori Lal Sharma, a long-time associate, to contest from Amethi, highlighting Sharma's decades-long commitment to public service in the region.
With today marking the deadline for filing nominations, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his commitment to the ongoing struggle for justice and democracy, seeking the support and blessings of his well-wishers in this endeavor.
Accompanied by his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and mother, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi formally submitted his nomination papers. Also present was his brother-in-law, Robert Vadra.
Earlier this year, Sonia Gandhi vacated her Raebareli seat to assume a position in the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for Rahul Gandhi's candidacy.
In Raebareli, Rahul Gandhi is set to face off against Dinesh Pratap Singh, the BJP's nominee, who contested and lost to Sonia Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The decision to field Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli and Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi was taken during a meeting of the Congress party's Central Election Committee.
Despite facing electoral setbacks in Amethi in 2019, Rahul Gandhi's association with the constituency spans over three consecutive terms, from 2004 to 2019. Presently, he represents Kerala's Wayanad constituency, where he is contesting in the current elections as well.
