Severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan for the next three days, although a gradual reduction in intensity is anticipated after May 28. As high temperatures continue to scorch the Indian subcontinent, a heat wave coupled with warm nights and hot, humid weather is predicted to prevail over the next five days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts on Sunday, advising the public to brace for extreme weather conditions across various regions.
Rajasthan will experience heat wave to severe heat wave conditions between May 26 and May 28, with temperatures reaching alarming highs in most parts of the state. Similar conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh, although a gradual reduction in intensity is forecasted after May 28, according to the weather department.
Warm nights will exacerbate the discomfort in isolated pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, continuing from May 26 to May 30. West Rajasthan will experience these warm nights between May 26 and May 29, while parts of Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan will suffer from May 26 to May 29. West Madhya Pradesh will endure these warm nights on May 26 and May 27.
Isolated pockets of the Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh will be under heat wave conditions from May 26 to May 30. Eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh will also experience similar heat wave conditions between May 26 and May 28, while Chhattisgarh will feel the heat from May 28 to May 30.
The western parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are also expected to experience elevated temperatures between May 26 and May 29.
Meanwhile, a heat wave will affect Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat on May 26 and 27. Hot and humid weather will dominate some parts of Gujarat state from May 26 to May 30 and Bihar on May 27. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim need to prepare for similar conditions on May 26.
Citizens are advised to take proper precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid excessive exposure to the sun during peak hours to mitigate the adverse effects of the impending heat wave and the accompanying warm and humid conditions.
