On Tuesday, the third phase of Lok Sabha polls will witness voting for nine seats in Madhya Pradesh, featuring prominent candidates such as Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Chief Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Digvijaya Singh.
Over 1.77 crore voters will cast their ballots across 20,456 polling stations, including 1,043 managed entirely by women. Among the electorate, there are 92,68,987 men, 84,83,105 women, and 491 transgender persons.
The electoral contest includes Scindia's bid to reclaim the Guna constituency, which he lost in 2019 while with the Congress. Meanwhile, Chouhan, a BJP stalwart, seeks victory from the Vidisha constituency after almost 17 years, facing Congress candidate Pratap Bhanu Sharma.
In Rajgarh, Digvijaya Singh aims to revive his electoral legacy after over three decades, challenged by BJP's Rodmal Nagar. The BJP is optimistic about securing a strong foothold in Madhya Pradesh, which contributes 29 members to the Lok Sabha.
Scindia's electoral fortunes are under scrutiny in Guna, where the support of the Yadav community holds significance. His opponent, Yadvendra Singh Yadav of the Congress, seeks to challenge his supremacy. In 2019, Scindia lost the seat to BJP's KP Yadav before switching allegiance to the BJP in 2020.
Chouhan appears well-positioned in Vidisha, while the contest in Rajgarh remains competitive. Digvijaya Singh, who won from Rajgarh in 1984 and 1991 but faced defeat in 1989, served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in 1993.
Of the total 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, polling for 12 seats concluded in two phases earlier, leaving eight seats to go to polls in the fourth phase on May 13.
