A tragic incident occurred in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, where a 20-year-old student lost her life after being struck by a train while filming an Instagram reel near a railway track. The victim, identified as Vaishali, was a student at the College of Engineering Roorkee and hailed from Haripur Tongia village in Haridwar.
The mishap unfolded on May 2 in the Shivpuram area of Roorkee as Vaishali and her friend were engrossed in shooting the reel. Tragically, Vaishali was unable to evade an oncoming train, resulting in her demise. Her friend managed to escape and promptly notified Vaishali's family about the unfortunate incident.
Vaishali's untimely death has left her family and community in shock. Govind Ram, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gangnahar police station, confirmed the details, highlighting the risks associated with filming near railway tracks.
Expressing concern over the incident, Haridwar Police urged individuals to refrain from engaging in dangerous activities for the sake of social media recognition. They emphasized the alarming trend of young individuals risking their lives to create sensational content online.
This tragedy echoes a similar occurrence from the previous year, wherein a 20-year-old man lost his life while filming an Instagram reel with friends at Government Science College in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The fatal incident was captured on camera by one of the victim's companions, underscoring the dangers associated with reckless behavior in pursuit of online popularity.
