Two sick after dining at McDonald's in Noida, Theobroma, action started

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Department has taken action against a McDonald's outlet in Noida Sector 18 and a branch of Theobroma bakery in Sector 104 in response to complaints from two customers who reported falling ill after consuming food from these establishments. One customer allegedly became ill after consuming fries and a burger from McDonald's, while another reported feeling unwell after consuming a purportedly stale pineapple cake from Theobroma.

Complaints regarding these incidents were filed through the Food Safety Connect Portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), as reported by the ANI news agency. Acting swiftly upon receiving these complaints, a team from the FSDA in Gautam Buddh Nagar visited the McDonald's outlet to collect samples following the customer's complaint.

Archana Dheeran, Assistant Commissioner (Food) FDA, Gautam Buddha Nagar, informed ANI that samples of palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise were collected from the McDonald's outlet, as the customer reportedly fell ill after consuming aloo tikki and French fries. She stated that the FSDA has taken appropriate action in response to the complaint, and the results of the sample analysis are anticipated within 15 days to a month.

Regarding the complaint against Theobroma bakery, Dheeran stated that a sample of the allegedly stale pineapple cake, which the customer claimed caused illness, was collected and sent to the laboratory for analysis. She mentioned that the complainant also noted sourness in the icing of the cake.

Dheeran emphasized that if the samples fail to meet safety standards in the laboratory tests, legal action will be taken against the respective outlets. The swift response from the FSDA underscores its commitment to ensuring food safety and addressing consumer grievances effectively.
