The Uttarakhand Police has issued a ban on the use of mobile phones for making videos and shooting reels within 50 meters of Char Dham temples, including Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. This decision comes in response to the challenges posed by the increasing number of visitors engaging in such activities, which have made crowd management difficult.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to ensure strict compliance with the ban to maintain the sanctity of the temple premises. While there is no prohibition on carrying mobile phones, using them for videography or making reels within the specified distance from the temples is strictly prohibited.
Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar emphasized the enforcement of this ban and warned that violators would be charged under Section 296 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for disturbing a religious assembly. Additionally, those found offending religious sentiments or violating the sanctity of the Char Dhams may face charges under IPC 295A and IPC 153 A(2).
Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi reiterated the Chief Minister's directive and emphasized the importance of respecting religious sentiments and maintaining the sanctity of the temple premises. She emphasized that visitors must refrain from shooting videos or making reels within the 50-meter radius of the temple to uphold the dignity of the sacred sites and show respect to devotees.
The Char Dham Yatra holds immense significance for Hindus, attracting a large number of devotees each year. With this ban, authorities aim to preserve the spiritual atmosphere and ensure a peaceful pilgrimage experience for all visitors.
