A young man drowned after jumping from a height of approximately 150 feet into a lake at a stone quarry in Rajasthan's Udaipur, authorities said on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Dinesh Meena, was a resident of Udaipur who had gone to the quarry to shoot Instagram Reels with four of his friends.
According to reports, the incident occurred when one of Dinesh's friends first slipped off the cliff and fell into the water but managed to come out safely. Following this, Dinesh jumped into the water from the same height. When he did not resurface for a long time, his friends became worried and informed the police.
"Dinesh Meena jumped down nearly 150 feet into deep water and drowned. Local police and divers reached the spot after receiving the information and recovered his body after a three-hour search operation," said Naresh Chaudhry, a diver from the Civil Security Department.
"The body has been lodged at the mortuary of MB Hospital by the police, and the deceased youth's family has been informed about the tragedy," he added.
This incident is reminiscent of another tragedy that occurred just last Tuesday in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. An 18-year-old man named Tausif drowned after jumping from a height of about 100 feet into a quarry lake to make an Instagram reel. His friends, who were bathing in the lake, tried to save him but were unsuccessful. They alerted locals and the police, and a search operation was launched, eventually recovering the youth's body.
These incidents highlight the dangers of performing risky stunts for social media content, often leading to tragic consequences.
