A Madhya Pradesh woman who stabbed her mother-in-law 95 times is sentenced to death

In a significant judicial decision, a court in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district has sentenced 24-year-old Kanchan Kol to the death penalty for the brutal murder of her mother-in-law, Saroj Kol. The conviction was pronounced by Rewa's additional sessions judge Padma Jatav.

According to additional public prosecutor Vikas Dwivedi, Kanchan Kol, a resident of Atraila village, was found guilty of fatally attacking her 50-year-old mother-in-law with a sickle over 95 times. The incident occurred on July 12, 2022, when Saroj Kol was alone in her house.

Dwivedi detailed that Kanchan's assault was extraordinarily vicious, involving repeated strikes with a sharp sickle. Saroj Kol was discovered in critical condition by her son, who immediately notified the police and rushed her to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, she was declared dead by the doctors.

In addition to Kanchan Kol, Saroj's husband, Valmik Kol, was initially charged as a co-accused for allegedly inciting the murder. However, he was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

This case highlights the severe penalties for extreme acts of violence, with the court delivering a rare death sentence in response to the heinous nature of the crime.
