The police custody of actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and three others implicated in the Renukaswamy murder case is scheduled to conclude today. Previously, a Bengaluru court had extended the remand of the accused by an additional two days, as announced on Thursday.
Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old admirer of actor Darshan, was allegedly murdered for reportedly posting derogatory remarks on social media about Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda, a close associate of Darshan and purportedly his romantic partner.
Later today, Darshan, along with Vinay, Pradosh, and Dhanraj, will appear in court, where the police are anticipated to request a further extension of their custody to facilitate a thorough investigation and gather additional evidence. However, the outcome of this request remains uncertain.
It is anticipated that the court will order the four accused to be remanded into judicial custody later today. If judicial custody is ordered, actor Darshan will be transferred to Parappana Agrahara Prison, marking his second stint at the facility.
Previously, in 2011, Darshan spent 28 days in judicial custody following charges related to assaulting his wife.
During the ongoing investigation into the Renukaswamy murder case, it has emerged that Darshan reportedly borrowed Rs 40 lakh from an acquaintance to allegedly bribe co-accused individuals in an effort to destroy evidence linked to the crime. Darshan purportedly made this revelation in a statement provided to the police.
