Bengali actor Sudipa Chatterjee has reported receiving death threats following her appearance on a Bangladeshi culinary show where a participant prepared a beef dish. Videos of Sudipa interacting with the contestant quickly went viral, sparking widespread criticism and accusations, including claims of her political affiliations with the ruling Trinamool Congress and Bengal Minister Babul Supriyo.
In response to the backlash, Sudipa clarified her stance in a Facebook post, emphasizing that she did not consume or cook beef during the show. She explained that the participant, Karim Jahan, was responsible for preparing the dish, and urged critics to view the unedited videos for clarity.
Addressing the controversy surrounding her presence on the show, Sudipa defended her decision to remain during the preparation of the beef dish, citing respect for the host country's cultural practices and religious sensitivities. She likened her stance to the respectful behavior shown by Indian cricket players during the playing of Bangladesh's national anthem.
Sudipa also distanced herself from political motivations, asserting that the attacks on her and subsequent threats targeted at her and her family were unrelated to any political party, including the Trinamool Congress or the BJP. She condemned the abusive language and threats directed towards Mamata Banerjee and Babul Supriyo, emphasizing that such actions were unjustified and unacceptable.
Known for her long-standing presence in Bengali television, Sudipa Chatterjee gained popularity through shows like 'Rannaghar,' which ran successfully for 17 years. Her return in 2022 with 'Sudipa's Songshar,' focusing on home tips and cooking, marked her continued engagement with audiences in the region.
