Kangana Ranaut, Bollywood actor and BJP’s MP-elect from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, alleged that a CISF security official at Chandigarh Airport slapped her while she was traveling to Delhi on Thursday. According to Ranaut, the incident occurred when she was proceeding to the boarding point after the security check. The CISF woman official, Kulwinder Kaur, posted at the frisking area, allegedly argued with her and then slapped her.
Sources suggest that Ranaut's controversial statements about women in Punjab during the farmers' agitation might have provoked the alleged slapping. Following the incident, Kulwinder Kaur was suspended immediately, and an FIR was filed against her. CISF officials announced that a probe panel had been set up to investigate the claim.
In a video message posted on social media, Ranaut stated that the constable told her she supports the farmers' protest, questioning how to control the rising extremism in Punjab. Ranaut described the incident, saying the constable hit her and started abusing her after she completed the security check.
A video from the airport reportedly shows constable Kulwinder saying, "My mother was also among the protesters when she [Kangana] made these remarks." The constable was detained and taken to the CISF Commandant Office for questioning.
After arriving in Delhi, Kangana met with CISF Director General Nina Singh and other senior officials to explain the incident. The event sparked a political row, with several leaders calling for stringent action. Her election rival and Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh called the incident "unfortunate" and condemned it, emphasizing that such incidents should not happen, especially with women.
Kangana defeated Vikramaditya Singh, the incumbent state public works minister, by a margin of 74,755 votes from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. She became the fourth woman ever elected to Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh and the first woman not from an erstwhile royal family.
