Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump delivered high praise for Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy during a rally in Wisconsin, leaving his supporters jubilant. Trump lauded Ramaswamy as a "smart guy" and hinted at his involvement in his team in some capacity.
Vivek Ramaswamy, whose net worth exceeds $600 million, previously ran for the Republican presidential candidacy before throwing his support behind Trump.
"If I were to entrust it to Vivek, he would certainly succeed," Trump remarked regarding his administration's negotiations on tariff deals with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"He's going to be with us in some capacity," Trump affirmed about Ramaswamy, emphasizing his interactions with the entrepreneur during the rally. Trump reiterated his admiration, labelling Ramaswamy as a "smart guy."
Ramaswamy was the opening speaker at the Wisconsin rally, introduced humorously as "The Fake Vivek," a nod to Trump's signature style of nicknaming. This reference was part of a leaked memo instructing then-presidential candidate Ron DeSantis to use this moniker for Ramaswamy.
During his speech, Ramaswamy likened Trump to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, particularly drawing parallels to George Washington: "Donald Trump is the George Washington of our day."
Trump is scheduled to announce his Vice-Presidential pick at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee in July.
Speculations in March suggested Ramaswamy might be considered for Vice President, but his spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin clarified, "There’s a lot of media speculation, but Vivek's primary focus is ensuring we re-elect President Trump to further advance America First initiatives."
"Vivek would be an asset to any future administration. Currently, his focus remains on driving change in the private sector and revitalizing our economy, including combatting the ESG challenges in corporate America."
Reports indicated Ramaswamy was under consideration for Homeland Security Secretary due to his strong oratory skills and background as the son of an Indian American immigrant, potentially offering a counterbalance to Trump's stance on immigration policies.
