After villagers alerted the police, a gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, resulting in the death of at least one terrorist and injury to one civilian. The incident began on Tuesday evening when two terrorists, who had infiltrated from across the border, arrived in the village of Saida Sukhal around 8 pm and went door-to-door asking for water. The vigilant villagers quickly slammed their doors and informed the authorities.
Following the villagers' tip-off, security forces comprising the CRPF, Army, and police engaged the terrorists. The initial clash led to the death of one terrorist and the wounding of a civilian. The remaining terrorist, who had taken refuge near Kathua's Saida village, was neutralized by the security forces the following day at noon. This terrorist had killed a CRPF jawan earlier at 3 am when he attempted to break through the security cordon by opening fire.
Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, detailed the events, stating that the terrorists had asked for water upon entering the village. The residents' prompt alert enabled a police team, led by a sub-divisional police officer and a Station House officer, to rush to the scene.Â
As the security forces closed in, one terrorist attempted to escape by throwing a grenade but was swiftly killed in the exchange of fire. The operation showcased the effective collaboration between the vigilant villagers and the security forces, preventing further harm and ensuring the terrorists were neutralized.
