Bengaluru charges two others and the son of a union minister with fraud and intimidation

On Friday, the Bengaluru Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Minister V Somanna's son, Arun Somanna, and two others following a complaint lodged by a couple accusing them of fraud, blackmail, physical assault, and issuing life threats.

The other two individuals named in the FIR are Jeevan Kumar, who resides in Dasarahalli, and Pramod Rao, a resident of Hebbal in Bengaluru.

According to the complaint, Trupthi and her husband Madhwaraj, who has been operating an event management company for the past 23 years, first met Arun, the son of the Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, during a government event in 2013.

The FIR against Arun Somanna was filed following the directive of the 37th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) in Bengaluru.

Previously, the couple had successfully organized a birthday party for Arun's sister, which received considerable praise. Impressed by their performance, Arun suggested a business partnership with Madhwaraj, leveraging his father's influential status in Karnataka to jointly expand their enterprise.

However, the company experienced significant financial setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019.

The complaint alleges that Arun eventually took control of the company, ceasing the distribution of profits to the couple. Subsequently, Arun demanded that the couple resign as shareholders and pay him Rs 1.2 crore as compensation. When Trupthi and Madhwaraj refused, explaining they couldn't afford such a sum, Arun verbally abused them in front of their office staff and physically assaulted Madhwaraj with a belt and a lamp.

The police have registered the case at Sanjay Nagar police station, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to criminal intimidation, common intention, and cheating, among other charges.
