BJP demands a CBI investigation; Karnataka creates a SIT to look into an official's suicide

Karnataka has initiated a probe into the alleged suicide of a state government employee, who purportedly took his life after being coerced into involvement in a Rs 87 crore fund misappropriation case. BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal has called for a CBI inquiry into the matter, citing a complaint from the Union Bank of India.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) leading the investigation comprises four members, with Additional Director General of Police Manish Kharbikar heading the team. The team has already made arrests, including the Managing Director of the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation (KMVSTDC), JG Padmanabha, and accountant Parashuram, based on the contents of the deceased employee's suicide note.

The suicide note implicated Padmanabha, Parashuram, and a Chief Manager of Union Bank of India branch in Bengaluru, alleging coercion and financial irregularities. Following the death, the Valmiki Development Corporation filed an FIR against top Union Bank of India officials, leading to a criminal case. Additionally, Union Bank of India lodged a complaint with the CBI, classifying the financial transactions as fraudulent.

In response, the bank suspended three officials and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation. BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal and other party members have demanded accountability, calling for the resignation of Karnataka Minister B Nagendra and alleging the involvement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the scam.

The case underscores the challenges faced by honest officials and the political ramifications of corruption allegations in Karnataka's governance.
