Canada and India ought to acknowledge one another's concerns: PM responds to a post by Trudeau

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's congratulatory message, expressing India's readiness to collaborate with Canada based on mutual understanding and respect for each other's concerns. Modi's response comes a day after he was sworn in for a third consecutive term.

In his tweet, Modi thanked Trudeau for the congratulatory message and emphasized the importance of cooperation between India and Canada. This exchange follows Trudeau's earlier message to Modi, extending congratulations on the electoral victory of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

However, Modi's response came four days after Trudeau's initial message, raising speculation due to the delay. This delay contrasts with Modi's prompt responses to similar messages from other world leaders.

The relationship between India and Canada has faced strains, particularly after Trudeau's remarks alleging Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has strongly refuted these allegations.

Canada's recent arrests in connection with Nijjar's murder have further fueled tensions. India has criticized Canada for allowing pro-Khalistani elements to operate from its soil, highlighting instances of threats against Indian diplomats. Following Trudeau's allegations, India requested Canada to reduce its diplomatic presence, leading to the withdrawal of several diplomats.

Despite these challenges, Modi's response to Trudeau's message signals India's willingness to engage with Canada constructively, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and understanding in bilateral relations.
