Chirag Paswan, the chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), has taken oath as a Union Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. Expressing his gratitude to PM Modi for the trust placed in him, Paswan stated his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities with honesty and hard work.Â
"This is a huge responsibility for me... I will ensure that I fulfill this responsibility with full honesty and hard work... The credit for this goes to the Prime Minister. He had so much faith in a party with a single MP and gave it 5 seats... I have also given them all 5 seats by winning them," Paswan was quoted by news agency ANI.
He also emphasized the government's focus over the past decade on welfare schemes for the poor and expressed his intention to continue working towards reducing the disparity between the rich and poor, as well as between rural and urban areas.
Chirag Paswan achieved a decisive victory in Bihar's Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, defeating RJD's Shiv Chandra Ram by over 1.70 lakh votes. Besides Paswan, PM Modi included seven MPs from Bihar in his council of ministers, with four of them being from the BJP's allies. This move is seen as an effort by the BJP to balance the caste equation ahead of next year's assembly elections.
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have received significant representation in the new council of ministers, with nine ministerial berths for Uttar Pradesh, including one Cabinet position, and eight ministers from Bihar, including four in the Cabinet.
