The Opposition in West Bengal has strongly criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) after a disturbing video surfaced showing a woman being brutally beaten on the streets of Uttar Dinajpur district's Chopra area. Both the BJP and CPI(M) alleged that the perpetrator is a TMC worker named Tajmul Haque alias JCB.
In the video, Tajmul Haque is seen viciously attacking a woman and another man with sticks, while bystanders appear to stand by without intervening. The incident has sparked outrage and condemnation across social media platforms.
The Islampur police district swiftly responded to the incident after the video went viral. They identified and apprehended Tajmul Haque, who had been evading arrest since the video emerged. The police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges related to assault and criminal intimidation.
In response to allegations of misinformation, the Islampur Police District clarified through their official handle that they have taken prompt action against the accused and are actively addressing the legal aspects of the case.
CPI(M) West Bengal State Secretary Md Salim condemned the incident, describing it as a case of "bulldozer justice" under Mamata Banerjee's governance. He also accused Tajmul Haque of being involved in other serious crimes, including the murder of a party member.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya also criticized the TMC government, accusing them of failing to maintain law and order in the state. He highlighted Tajmul Haque's alleged connections to a local TMC MLA and questioned whether Mamata Banerjee would take decisive action against him.
As of now, there has been no official response from the West Bengal government or the Trinamool Congress regarding the video or the allegations against Tajmul Haque. The incident underscores ongoing tensions and accusations surrounding governance and law enforcement in West Bengal.
