Criminals in Karnataka attack a police car transporting an accused person, wounding four officers

Miscreants attacked a police vehicle transporting an accused individual in Karnataka's Gadag, resulting in injuries to four policemen. The incident occurred on Friday when miscreants intercepted the vehicle and assaulted the officers while they were taking Amjad Ali, an accused, to the police station.

The police officers, hailing from Gangavathi in Koppal district, were transporting Ali when his gang ambushed the vehicle near a railway underbridge. The assailants shattered the vehicle's windows and fled with Ali, according to police reports.

The injured officers—ASI Shivasharana Gowda, Constable Mylarappa Sompura, Havaldar Marigowda Hosamani, and car driver Sharanappa Thimmanagouda—were admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

At the time of the incident, the police had used a private vehicle to transport Ali, a resident of Gadag.

Gadag Superintendent of Police (SP) BS Nemagouda commented on the situation, stating, "The Gangavati Shahara police had come here to take an accused into custody in connection with a crime. They picked him up and left, after which they were attacked by the accused's gang. They also broke open the vehicle's windows and managed to escape with the accused."

SP Nemagouda further assured, "Four policemen suffered minor injuries. We will take action against all the accused as per the law based on their complaint."
