Day 4 of the hunger strike has seen Delhi Minister Atishi recommended to check into a hospital

Doctors from Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital have conducted an examination of Delhi Minister Atishi and have strongly advised her to be admitted to the hospital due to the severe health consequences stemming from her ongoing indefinite hunger strike, which has now reached its fourth day.

Despite this medical advice, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader is resolute in continuing her hunger strike. She insists on maintaining her protest until Haryana releases what she believes is Delhi's rightful share of water, even as her health continues to decline.

"My blood pressure and sugar levels are dropping significantly, and I have lost weight. The ketone level in my body is alarmingly high, which poses serious long-term health risks," Atishi revealed. Nevertheless, she has refused hospitalization, declaring, "Regardless of the suffering my body endures, I will persist with this fast until Haryana releases the water."

As Delhi faces a critical water shortage, Atishi has accused the BJP-led Haryana government of withholding 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, a situation affecting more than 2.8 million residents of the national capital.

"All of Delhi's water supply depends on neighbouring states. The BJP government in Haryana has held back 100 MGD, which amounts to over 46 crore litres of water that rightfully belongs to Delhi," she stated.

In light of the ongoing crisis, Delhi cabinet ministers gathered at the hunger strike site in Jangpura. They resolved to write a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention and a swift resolution to the issue.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai extended an invitation to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and all relevant officers to visit Wazirabad and Bawana. He urged them to personally inspect the flow meter readings and observe the water levels in the river. "The data regarding the water released by Haryana is available, and they can verify for themselves how significantly the water has decreased," Rai added.

In support of Atishi's protest, AAP announced a candlelight march, emphasizing the necessity for Delhi to receive its fair share of water.

Earlier, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, following a meeting with an AAP delegation, reported that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has promised to explore the possibility of supplying additional water to Delhi.
