The newly formed Modi 3.0 Cabinet is set to hold its first meeting today at 5 pm at the Prime Minister's residence, located at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. According to government sources, one of the significant decisions likely to be made is the approval of two crore additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).Â
In addition to this approval, the Union Cabinet is expected to increase the financial assistance provided to beneficiaries under PMAY-G by nearly 50 percent. These initiatives reflect the government's ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs in rural areas and supporting affordable housing for all citizens, a priority highlighted in Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Interim Budget in February.
The Cabinet is also anticipated to urge President Droupadi Murmu to convene a session of Parliament soon and address a joint sitting of both Houses.
On Sunday, Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for a record third term, with 72 ministers being sworn in alongside him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Following the swearing-in ceremony, BJP President JP Nadda hosted a dinner for the new Council of Ministers.
Before the ceremony, Modi met with the newly inducted ministers at his residence and emphasized the importance of getting started with the '100-day program'. This program is likely aimed at setting immediate priorities and actions for the new government.
In his Independence Day speech last year, PM Modi highlighted that poor and middle-class citizens living in slums, chawls, unauthorized colonies, and rented houses would soon be able to avail of home loans from banks at lower interest rates, indicating that relief in lending rates was being worked on. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of affordable housing and improving living conditions for disadvantaged populations.
