Giorgia Meloni of Italy and PM Modi strike a new #Melodi selfie during the G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni delighted their followers with a new selfie at the G7 Summit, continuing a trend that started with their previous selfie at the COP28 Summit in 2023, tagged with #Melodi. The camaraderie between the leaders was evident as they greeted each other with namaste gestures upon Modi's arrival.

PM Modi's attendance marked his fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, a testament to India's consistent engagement with the group over the past decade. Italy, as the host of this summit, welcomed leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, the US, and the European Union.

During their bilateral meeting, PM Modi and PM Meloni discussed significant topics such as bilateral defence and security cooperation. They expressed mutual interest in expanding defence industrial collaboration and looked forward to the upcoming visits of Italian naval assets, including the aircraft carrier ITS Cavour and training ship ITS Vespucci, scheduled to visit India later this year.

The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed these discussions in an official statement, underlining the growing partnership between India and Italy in defence and strategic realms. The leaders' interaction at the G7 Summit not only highlighted their personal rapport but also underscored the importance of bilateral ties in fostering mutual growth and security.
