Giorgia Meloni of Italy congratulates PM Modi on the victory of the NDA, and he thanks her



Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended her congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the BJP-led NDA secured victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), written in Italian, Meloni expressed her commitment to working with India to strengthen the bilateral friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Meloni's message read, "Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us, for the well-being of our nations and our people."

In response, PM Modi thanked her for the warm wishes and emphasized the importance of the India-Italy strategic partnership. He tweeted, "Thank you for your kind wishes PM @GiorgiaMeloni. We remain committed to deepening India-Italy strategic partnership which is underpinned by shared values and interests. Looking forward to working together for global good."

The BJP-led NDA won 292 seats in the 2024 elections, while the Opposition INDIA bloc secured 233 seats. The BJP itself won 240 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 272, while the Congress saw an increase from its 2019 tally, winning 99 seats. Other parties, including regional outfits and Independents, won 16 seats.

Despite winning, the NDA saw a reduction in its vote share, dropping from over 50 percent in 2019 to around 46 percent in this election.
