The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Thursday that it would contest the upcoming Assembly election solo, without forming an alliance. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai clarified that while the party had an alliance with Congress for the Lok Sabha elections, there would be no such partnership for the Delhi Assembly polls. The Assembly elections are scheduled for early 2025.
The decision was made during a meeting with AAP Delhi MLAs at the Chief Minister's residence. At the meeting, legislators were instructed to resume development work in their constituencies every Saturday and Sunday, as work had been halted due to the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha polls.
AAP has also scheduled a meeting of Delhi Councillors for Saturday, June 8, and a meeting of party workers for June 13.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested 22 seats across five states—Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, and Assam—but only won three seats in Punjab. Despite this, the party had previously achieved significant success in Punjab, winning 92 out of 117 assembly seats in the 2022 assembly elections. However, in the latest Lok Sabha results, AAP only led in 33 of the 117 assembly segments in Punjab.
