HD Revanna on allegations of sexual assault against son Suraj: Trust in the legal system

Janata Dal (Secular) MLA HD Revanna addressed the media on Sunday regarding the allegations against his son Suraj Revanna, asserting that the accusations of sexually assaulting a male party worker were part of a larger conspiracy. HD Revanna, who maintains a strong belief in both God and the judiciary, made these remarks following Suraj Revanna's arrest in Hassan. Suraj Revanna, an MLC and the brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna who is facing rape charges, was taken into custody on charges related to "unnatural offences," as reported by PTI quoting police sources.

A case has been registered against Suraj Revanna under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly sexually abusing the worker at his farmhouse on June 16. The Karnataka government has transferred the case to the state's Crime Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.

"I prefer not to comment at this point. Let the CID conduct their investigation. I have full respect for the judiciary. I am aware of the developments in the state," HD Revanna told reporters.

"I trust in God and the judiciary. I am not afraid of such conspiracies. I understand the situation, and time will reveal the truth," he added.

When questioned about who might be behind the alleged conspiracy, HD Revanna responded, "I am not aware. You (the media) may have more information. I will face this situation calmly. The judiciary will decide. Suraj has cooperated with the police. Everyone is aware of recent events."

Regarding his son's complaint, he said, "I am not fully informed at this stage. The truth will emerge in due course."

Suraj Revanna was arrested while he was at the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan in connection with a separate blackmail case involving him and his associate Shivakumar against the alleged victim.

Suraj Revanna, aged 37, denies the charges against him and claims that the victim filed a false complaint to extort Rs 5 crore from him.

Earlier, police had filed an extortion case against the JD(S) worker based on a complaint by Suraj Revanna's associate Shivakumar.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy declined to comment on his nephew Suraj Revanna's case, stating that the law would take its own course.

"That matter does not concern me. There is no need for me to comment on everything. Let the law take its course. Why should I discuss this issue?" he remarked.

He urged reporters to focus on matters pertaining to the state and emphasized that legal proceedings would clarify the situation in due time.

Suraj Revanna's brother Prajwal Revanna is currently in police custody on charges related to allegedly sexually assaulting women in viral videos. Prajwal Revanna, who contested and lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Hassan seat, was arrested upon his return from Germany on May 31.

In a related development, HD Revanna and his wife Bhavani Revanna are currently out on bail after being arrested on charges of allegedly kidnapping and detaining a woman who accused Prajwal Revanna of rape.
