Air India, owned by the Tata group, has announced the introduction of a revamped three-class configuration on its recently acquired narrowbody aircraft, aimed at elevating passenger comfort and offering greater choice.

The airline's A320neo planes will now boast Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, serving both domestic routes and short-haul international flights.

The newly configured aircraft, namely VT-RTW and VT-RTZ, will feature 8 luxurious Business Class seats, 24 extra-legroom seats in Premium Economy, and 132 comfortable seats in Economy Class.

This introduction marks the debut of Premium Economy cabins on Air India's narrowbody fleet, catering to the evolving preferences of contemporary travellers.

Air India plans to roll out this three-class setup across its entire fleet of full-service narrowbody aircraft within the next year. Existing planes are undergoing progressive retrofitting, while newly delivered aircraft will be equipped with these upgraded cabin offerings.

Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, expressed, “The implementation of a three-class cabin on Air India’s narrowbody fleet and the commencement of interior refurbishments represent significant milestones in our journey to enhance the flying experience."

He continued, "The modernization of our narrowbody fleet, which operates across domestic and short-haul international routes, complements the enhanced widebody experience now available on our A350 fleet and new B777s, as well as on all other widebodies undergoing retrofitting over the next two years. This comprehensive upgrade of Air India’s physical product is a crucial component of our transformation into a world-class airline."

Business Class passengers will enjoy spacious 40-inch seats with extensive reclining, adjustable armrests, footrests, and advanced tray tables equipped with multiple charging points.

Premium Economy offers larger seats with premium upholstery, wider pitch, and upgraded meal options served on improved crockery, promising an enhanced travel experience. Economy Class seats are also designed for comfort, featuring ergonomic attributes and convenient amenities.

This strategic initiative by Air India is anticipated to resonate with travellers seeking enhanced comfort and amenities on shorter routes, reaffirming its stature as a leader in the global aviation industry.
