Monu Kalyane, a prominent local BJP leader and close associate of Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, was tragically shot dead in Indore during the early hours of Sunday, according to police reports. Kalyane held the position of city vice president of BJP’s Yuva Morcha and was well-known for his strong connections with Kailash Vijayvargiya and his son, former MLA Akash Vijayvargiya.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kalyane was shot by two individuals, Piyush and Arjun, who were allegedly driven by an old enmity. Both suspects resided in the same neighbourhood as Kalyane, police said. Currently, the suspects are on the run, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.
Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya expressed deep sorrow over Kalyane's death, stating that strict measures would be taken against those responsible for this heinous act. Eyewitnesses recounted that Kalyane was approached by the two men while he was busy putting up banners and posters for a saffron vehicle rally in the city’s Chimanbagh area.
The men, arriving on a motorcycle, asked Kalyane for his phone number. As he reached for his mobile phone, one of them drew a pistol and shot him in the chest before quickly fleeing the scene. Kalyane's friends immediately rushed him to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Following the incident, the area where the murder occurred has been sealed off, with a significant police presence stationed outside Kalyane's residence to ensure security and maintain order.Â
