In Lucknow, an incident occurred where a Dalit laborer, Rajkumar Rawat, was urinating while he was taking an afternoon nap. This deplorable act, committed by Sanjay Maurya, sparked widespread outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Rawat, exhausted from his work, was resting when Maurya urinated on his face to rouse him. Following this humiliating event, Rawat's family promptly approached the police and lodged a complaint. The authorities, having noted the video's circulation, assured that the accused would be apprehended.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West Zone, Durgesh Kumar, confirmed, "We have received information about this case. The video, which surfaced yesterday (Sunday), is under investigation. The victim's family has filed a complaint, and we are diligently investigating the matter. The accused will be arrested."
This incident echoes a similar event from July of the previous year in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi. A video that went viral depicted Pravesh Shukla urinating on a tribal man. Shukla was subsequently arrested and charged under several legal provisions, including the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
The Madhya Pradesh incident led to a nationwide uproar, compelling the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to publicly atone by inviting the victim to his official residence and washing his feet.
