In the midst of the Kangana Ranaut "slap" controversy, Harsimrat Badal of Akali Dal defends Punjabis

Reacting to the Kangana Ranaut slapgate, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal emphasized that Punjabis are the "foremost patriots" and should not be labeled as "terrorists." This statement came after Bollywood actor and BJP-MP elect Kangana Ranaut alleged on Thursday that she was slapped by a woman CISF officer at Chandigarh airport.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal urged the Centre to address farmer grievances and honor promises made to them. She stressed that no one should label Punjabis as "atankwadi" (terrorist) or "ugarwadi" (militant) and exacerbate communal divisions. Badal highlighted the contributions of Punjabis as patriots serving the nation on borders and as food providers, asserting that they "deserve better."

In her post on X, Badal wrote, "I urge Union government to focus on farmer grievances & fulfill the promises made. No one should be allowed to label Punjabis as atankwadi or ugarwadi and fan communal divisions. Punjabis are foremost patriots, serving the nation on the borders and as food providers. We deserve better."

The incident involving Kangana Ranaut occurred at Chandigarh Airport when a CISF woman official, Kulwinder Kaur, allegedly argued with and slapped Ranaut during a security check. Sources suggest that Ranaut's controversial remarks about women in Punjab during the farmers' agitation might have provoked the incident.

The political fallout from the incident included calls from various leaders to address the issue of labeling Punjabis as terrorists, further highlighting the need for unity and understanding amidst political and social tensions.
