In the South China Sea, China intercepts a US submarine probe

Recently, a social media account affiliated with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that China intercepted a submarine probe dropped by a United States military aircraft into the South China Sea. The incident involved US military aircraft hovering over the waters of the South China Sea and releasing "unidentified items" downwards, according to the account.

China's coastguard subsequently retrieved and inspected one of these items, as depicted in a video released by the CCTV-affiliated account. The video claimed that the intercepted probe is designed to detect signals from Chinese submarines and counter underwater signals, citing an expert's analysis.

The interception marks another point of tension in the disputed South China Sea, where various countries, including China and the United States, assert overlapping territorial claims and conduct military activities. The incident is likely to contribute to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
