The incident involved US military aircraft hovering over the waters of the South China Sea and releasing "unidentified items" downwards, according to the account.
China's coastguard subsequently retrieved and inspected one of these items, as depicted in a video released by the CCTV-affiliated account. The video claimed that the intercepted probe is designed to detect signals from Chinese submarines and counter underwater signals, citing an expert's analysis.
