Narendra Modi is now expected to take oath as the Prime Minister of India on Sunday, June 9, according to sources. Initially, it was anticipated that his swearing-in ceremony would take place on June 8.

Modi resigned from his position on Wednesday, submitting his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu. The President accepted his resignation as Prime Minister and that of the Council of Ministers, requesting him to continue in his role until the new government is formed.

The scheduling of the oath ceremony has also affected the swearing-in of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, which has now been moved to June 12 to accommodate Modi's ceremony.

The upcoming oath-taking event is expected to be high-profile, with several foreign dignitaries on the guest list. These include Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, among others.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) narrowly secured a majority in the Lok Sabha elections, winning 293 out of 543 seats. The opposition alliance, known as the INDIA bloc, surpassed exit poll predictions and secured 234 seats, making significant gains in BJP strongholds such as Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

On Wednesday, Modi chaired the final meeting of his Modi 2.0 Cabinet and Council of Ministers. During this meeting, he reviewed the election results and discussed plans for the formation of the new government. Later in the evening, he led an NDA meeting to deliberate further on the details of government formation.

The upcoming swearing-in marks Narendra Modi's third consecutive term as Prime Minister, solidifying his leadership and the BJP's continuing influence in Indian politics.
