Kangana Ranaut slap row: Shabana Azmi: No love lost, but I can't rejoice

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi expressed her stance on the recent incident involving Kangana Ranaut, who alleged that she was slapped and abused by a woman CISF constable at the Chandigarh airport. Despite her lack of affection for Ranaut, Azmi condemned the celebration of the assault, emphasizing the importance of law enforcement personnel adhering to legal protocols.

Azmi stated, "I have no love lost for Kangana Ranaut. But I can't find myself joining this chorus of celebrating 'the slap'. If security personnel start taking the law into their hands, none of us can be safe." Her remarks come amid a defamation case between Ranaut and Azmi's husband, Javed Akhtar, stemming from comments made by Ranaut in 2020 regarding Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

The incident at the Chandigarh airport involved Ranaut being allegedly struck by CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur during a security check. Ranaut claimed that Kaur hit her and verbally abused her, citing support for the 2020 farmers' protests as a motive. Viral videos show Kaur objecting to Ranaut's past controversial remarks about the protests, where Ranaut had erroneously identified an elderly protester and insinuated she was paid to participate.

Following the incident, Kaur was suspended, taken into custody, and an FIR was filed against her. The CISF has also initiated a court of inquiry to investigate the matter.
