Karnataka Police notifies Yediyurappa of the BJP in a case involving sexual harassment

The mother of a 17-year-old girl has accused former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her daughter during a meeting on February 2 this year. In response, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka Police has issued a notice to the senior BJP leader, asking him to appear for questioning in connection with a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case.

The complaint, lodged by the girl's mother, alleges that the incident occurred when they visited Yediyurappa to seek assistance in a cheating case. As a result, Yediyurappa faces charges under the POCSO Act and Section 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for sexual harassment.

Yediyurappa, through his lawyers, has requested a week's extension to appear before the CID, citing his current presence in Delhi. This would mark his fourth appearance for questioning, as he has already been interrogated three times by the investigative team.

Initially registered at the Sadashivanagar police station, the case was subsequently transferred to the CID for further investigation. Yediyurappa has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as 'baseless.'

BS Yediyurappa, 81, has served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka multiple times: from 2008 to 2011, briefly in May 2018, and again from July 2019 to 2021. He resigned in 2021 after weeks of speculation and uncertainty.
