A 25-year-old man from Kerala, identified as Abdul Musavir Nadukandee, was apprehended after allegedly assaulting cabin crew members and attempting to open the door of an Air India Express flight bound from Kozhikode to Bahrain. The disturbing incident unfolded on Saturday, June 1, prompting an emergency landing in Mumbai, as reported by the police.
According to authorities, Nadukandee, upon awakening after takeoff, swiftly made his way to the rear of the aircraft, where he purportedly assaulted cabin crew members and made an attempt to tamper with the aircraft door.
Following a scuffle with crew members, Nadukandee proceeded to verbally abuse and physically assault fellow passengers while issuing threats to open the emergency door, escalating concerns among both crew and passengers.
In response to the escalating situation, the pilot made the decision to divert the flight to Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and promptly notified security personnel of the unfolding incident.
Upon the flight's safe landing, Nadukandee was promptly detained by authorities. He now faces a litany of charges, including endangering life, provocation to breach of peace, criminal intimidation, assault, and various violations under the Aircraft Act. The swift and decisive action taken by the flight crew and security personnel averted potential disaster and ensured the safety of all onboard.
