Manoj Kumar Singh, a senior IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre since 1988, has recently assumed the role of Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, succeeding Durga Shankar Mishra, also from the same cadre. Singh previously held positions such as Agriculture Production Commissioner, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner, and Additional Chief Secretary of the Panchayati Raj department in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh played a crucial role in transforming the 2019 Kumbh Mela into a globally significant event under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership. His experience in organizing the Kumbh Mela will be instrumental as he prepares for the upcoming 'Mahakumbh 2025'.
Throughout his career, Singh has held key administrative roles including District Magistrate in Lalitpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Pilibhit, Moradabad, and Aligarh, and Divisional Commissioner in Moradabad. His tenure has been marked by a focus on enhancing governance and ensuring the efficient delivery of justice at the grassroots level.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Singh actively contributed to efforts to control the virus spread in rural Uttar Pradesh. He also implemented Chief Minister Adityanath's 'BC Sakhi' scheme, which aims to provide banking services directly to people, promoting financial inclusion.
Durga Shankar Mishra, who was due to retire on December 31, 2021, was repatriated to the Uttar Pradesh cadre shortly before his retirement date after serving as Chief Secretary on extension.
