The Pune police on Saturday arrested Shivani Agarwal, the mother of the teen accused of fatally running over two techies with his Porsche. This arrest came after the investigation revealed that the juvenile's blood samples had been swapped with hers, Pune's Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar confirmed to PTI.
Shivani Agarwal was located and arrested after returning to Pune from Mumbai on Friday night. She is expected to be presented in court today.
Commissioner Kumar explained that the investigation confirmed that the blood samples originally attributed to the teen were indeed swapped with those of his mother, Shivani Agarwal. This arrest follows the police's earlier assertion in court that the teen's blood samples had been switched with those of a woman to falsely show that he was not intoxicated during the accident.
Suspicions arose when the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report from the teen's first blood sample indicated no presence of alcohol. Subsequent testing at another hospital and DNA analysis confirmed that the samples were from different individuals.
Shivani Agarwal had been evading capture since the arrest of Dr. Shrihari Halnor and Dr. Ajay Tawade, who were accused of tampering with evidence by discarding the teen's actual blood sample and replacing it with another person's sample.Â
The incident in question occurred in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, where two IT professionals were killed after their bike was hit by a Porsche allegedly driven by a drunk 17-year-old.Â
While the minor is currently in an observation home, his father, Vishal Agarwal, a realtor, and his grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, have been arrested on charges of kidnapping the family's driver and coercing him to falsely confess to being the driver at the time of the accident.
