Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi, while addressing a gathering of NDA MPs who elected him as their leader, criticized the Opposition INDIA bloc for their stance on the 2024 Lok Sabha election results. Modi highlighted the power of democracy in silencing those who questioned the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and technological advancements like Aadhaar.
Modi stated, "I strongly feel people of the INDIA bloc belong to the previous century when they question technological advancements like EVMs and Aadhaar." He emphasized that the democratic process proved the legitimacy of EVMs, silencing critics after the election results were declared.
He also asserted that the Opposition tried to misrepresent the results as a loss for the NDA, but the people knew the alliance had never lost. Modi took a jab at the Congress, noting that despite their efforts, they failed to touch the 100 mark, even after 10 years, and that their total seats over the last three Lok Sabha polls were fewer than the BJP's tally in this election alone.
Despite the NDA securing 293 seats and the BJP alone winning 240 seats, the party fell short of the majority mark of 272 for the first time in a decade. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc won 234 seats, with the Congress securing 99 seats, a significant improvement from previous elections.
Modi accused the INDIA bloc leaders of attempting to disrupt the democratic process and incite violence before the election results were announced, referencing statements made between June 1 and June 4. He urged the Opposition to engage constructively in Parliamentary debates, expressing a desire for meaningful discussions to aid in nation-building.
Narendra Modi is set to take the oath as Prime Minister for a record third consecutive time on June 9 at 6 pm, with several foreign leaders expected to attend the ceremony.
