NEET row: Students attempt to break into the Hyderabad home of a Union Minister and are arrested

Chaos erupted outside Union Minister G Kishan Reddy's residence in Hyderabad when members of various student organizations clashed with police during a protest over the NEET-UG 2024 examination irregularities. Protesters from the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Students' Federation of India (SFI), All India Students' Federation (AISF), and Progressive Democratic Student's Union (PDSU) gathered to voice their demands.

Led by NSUI Hyderabad district president Abhijit Yadav, the protesters attempted to march towards the minister's house, chanting slogans and calling for the abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA) due to its alleged mismanagement of the NEET-UG exam. The situation escalated as the police intervened, detaining several protesters and leading to a heated exchange between the police and student leaders. The detained protesters were taken to the Kachiguda police station.

The protests followed the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination due to alleged irregularities, including a paper leak. The controversy has sparked nationwide protests, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the paper leak, made its first arrests in the case on Thursday.

In a related development, the Tamil Nadu Assembly earlier in the day unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to scrap NEET from the state and allow students to be admitted to medical courses based on Class 12 marks. The resolution was passed despite a walkout by the Opposition from the House.
