Nobody's fief in Ayodhya: Samajwadi leader Awadhesh Prasad, who startled the BJP

In a significant political development, Samajwadi Party leader Awadhesh Prasad achieved a notable victory over the BJP candidate in Ayodhya, just months after the grand inauguration of the Ram Mandir. This defeat for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad constituency, following the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, is considered a major setback for the party in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Awadhesh Prasad discussed the factors that contributed to his victory and why Ayodhya did not favor the BJP. Prasad emphasized his dedication as a Ram bhakt (devotee) and his openness to greetings of both "Ram Ram" and "Jai Shri Ram." He asserted that the election results clarified who genuinely worships Lord Ram and who uses his name for political purposes. He stressed that Ayodhya is not anyone’s personal domain but the sacred land of Lord Ram, with his family's deep connections to the deity evident through their names.

Prasad criticized the BJP's narrative during the consecration ceremony of the Ayodhya temple, which suggested that they were responsible for "bringing home" Lord Ram. He argued that such claims are unacceptable, as Lord Ram has been an eternal presence in the hearts of the devotees.

He also voiced concerns over the ongoing development projects in Ayodhya, highlighting the difference between true pilgrims and tourists. Prasad pointed out that many local residents, including shop owners and farmers, have suffered due to these large-scale projects, with shops demolished without compensation and farmland threatened by new developments.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's confidence in Prasad was evident in his decision to nominate him for the general seat six months prior. Prasad shared his gratitude for the respect and honor given to him by Akhilesh Yadav, including being seated beside him at events and being part of the national committee.

Prasad expressed his readiness to face any opponent, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had he chosen to contest from Ayodhya instead of Varanasi. He recalled Akhilesh Yadav's assurance of victory and the potential for a strong nationwide message through his candidacy.

The election process, according to Prasad, was conducted smoothly and fairly, with commendable administration and cooperation from political parties. He also highlighted the groundbreaking nature of his candidacy, as a Dalit being fielded from a general seat, honoring the spirit of Dr. BR Ambedkar’s Constitution.
