On Sunday night, Narendra Modi will swear in as prime minister for a third term. Pralhad Joshi of the BJP

Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on June 9 (Sunday), as announced by senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi during the NDA parliamentary meeting held in the old Parliament building. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at 6 pm.

The meeting was convened to formally elect Narendra Modi as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party. In attendance were NDA MPs, senior leaders of the alliance, and chief ministers, including TDP's N Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar, and Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde. BJP president JP Nadda proposed a resolution endorsing Modi's leadership, which was unanimously supported by the allies and MPs.

Following his election as the NDA leader, Modi, along with senior NDA members, will meet President Droupadi Murmu to present the list of MPs backing the alliance. The NDA secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha, surpassing the majority mark of 272, while the Opposition INDIA bloc won 234 seats. The BJP alone won 240 seats, marking the first time in ten years that the party did not achieve a majority on its own.

In light of the results declared on June 4-5, the BJP leadership has moved swiftly to form the government, aiming to avoid any uncertainty. Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda, have been in discussions with allies to determine their representation in the new government, which will rely on their support for stability.

Foreign leaders expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony include Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

Additionally, the ceremony will be attended by laborers working on the Central Vista project, Railways staff involved in Vande Bharat trains and Vande Metro projects, transgenders, sanitation workers, Viksit Bharat ambassadors, and beneficiaries of the central government's welfare schemes.
