The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heatwave-like conditions in certain regions of Delhi, east Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc., for today. However, heavy rainfall is expected in states like West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
According to the IMD's morning bulletin, heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar from June 5 to 9, with specific areas in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan on June 5, and Odisha on June 5 and 6 experiencing high temperatures.
Delhi is expected to experience light rain with thunderstorms until Friday, offering some relief from the severe heatwave. Nevertheless, the maximum temperature in the national capital is projected to remain between 42–45 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for parts of Northeast India, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Sikkim, Assam, and Maharashtra may witness both light and heavy rainfall, while areas in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Odisha are warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Moreover, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, South Madhya Pradesh, and the Western Himalayas are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, with rain also likely in various areas of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. The IMD also predicts isolated light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, along with scattered light to moderate rain in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh over the next seven days.
