On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a series of meetings with senior government officials at his residence to address multiple pressing issues, including the flood situation in the northeastern states and the ongoing heatwave in north India.
During these meetings, PM Modi directed officials to conduct regular fire and electrical safety audits in hospitals and other public places to enhance safety measures. He emphasized the importance of being prepared for fire incidents and instructed that proper drills be carried out.
PM Modi reviewed the aftermath of Cyclone Remal and its impact on the northeastern states, specifically Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura. The Prime Minister was briefed on the cyclone's effects and the current flood situation in these areas. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, "Chaired meetings to review the situation in the wake of heatwaves and post-cyclone flood situations in different parts of the nation. Took stock of the efforts underway to assist those affected by these adversarial conditions."
In addition to discussing the cyclone's impact, PM Modi assessed the heatwave conditions affecting parts of the country. He reiterated the need for adequate preparations to manage these extreme weather events, urging officials to ensure full preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a normal to above-normal southwest monsoon for most parts of India.
Furthermore, PM Modi reviewed plans for celebrating World Environment Day on June 5. He highlighted the importance of organizing large-scale events to mark the occasion, which will occur just a day after the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The meetings were attended by senior officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, the Chief of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and other key personnel.
These discussions followed the release of exit poll results on Saturday, which predicted a significant victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), suggesting that Modi is set to retain power for a third consecutive term.
