PM Narendra Modi steps down; his swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for June 8

Narendra Modi is expected to be sworn in as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8, as the NDA secured 292 seats, surpassing the majority mark required for government formation. President Droupadi Murmu accepted Modi's resignation as Prime Minister and requested him to continue in office until the new government is formed.

If the NDA forms the government, Modi will be the second leader after Jawaharlal Nehru to serve three consecutive terms.

Earlier, Modi chaired a Union Cabinet meeting to assess the Lok Sabha election results and discuss matters concerning the formation of the next government. This meeting marked the conclusion of the Modi 2.0 Cabinet and Council of Ministers.

Senior NDA leaders, including Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, are gathering in Delhi for a meeting to finalize details of government formation, scheduled for 4 pm. The BJP's allies have begun submitting their demands for Cabinet positions in the upcoming Modi 3.0 Cabinet, with JD(U), Shiv Sena, Lok Janshakti Party, and HAM(S) expressing their preferences.
