The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police is actively searching for the mobile phone of Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, which is suspected to have been used to record explicit videos of women. Sources informed India Today on Saturday that the SIT is seeking access to Apple's servers to retrieve these videos as part of their investigation into the sex tapes case involving Revanna.
The police suspect that Revanna's lost phone was used to capture the explicit footage. Typically, Apple stores data such as texts, voice recordings, photos, and videos on iCloud. Given Revanna's claim that his phone was lost, accessing iCloud directly is crucial for the SIT to verify that the explicit content was indeed recorded on his device.
The SIT has requested Apple's cooperation in granting access to their servers, which could significantly speed up the investigation. The SIT's primary evidence currently relies on the testimony of a victim who alleges sexual abuse by Prajwal Revanna.
Prajwal Revanna, who is running for re-election from the Hassan constituency as an NDA candidate, was remanded to custody until June 6 by a Bengaluru court on Friday.
Revanna had left for Germany in April as the sex tapes scandal emerged. Several lookout notices were issued at immigration points worldwide. He returned to Bengaluru early on Friday and was promptly arrested by the SIT. Following his arrest, he was taken to the CID office for interrogation.
In a symbolic move, an all-women team of police officers, led by a woman IPS officer, was dispatched to arrest the JD(S) MP. The arrest involved five women police officers, underscoring the seriousness with which the Karnataka SIT is handling the case.
